Wow! I've migrated my Blog over to a grown-up blogging tool! This gives all the fabulous features that you'd expect from a proper Blog! You can now post comments against our postings, subscribe to feeds, and it's easier for me to write my entries!
Private Blogs for ToucanLearn members aren't as sophisticated - they are very easy to write into, you just choose the type of entry you are creating and write into the prompted boxes. If you'd like more comprehensive features for your private Blog then drop us a line to let us know and we'll look at how we can offer that. I know that some of you are regular bloggers (I even follow some of your updates!) but most of you are just 'normal' people who aren't used to this whole bloging thing! We want to give people the features they want, but make it as easy as possible.
When your baby is a few months old, you may find it helpful to get into a routine of eating, sleeping, bathing and doing other activities throughout the day. There's little evidence that routine is important for your baby, but it could well make it easier for you to plan your day and remember to do all that needs doing. Why not make ToucanLearn activities a part of your routine? You can easily fit in an activity at one or two points in the day, and maybe another at bedtime? Then in the evening you could blog your day, feedback on the activities, upload any photos that you took, and select activities for the following day.
Being a toddler is all about gaining independence, becoming more mobile and a keenness to learn about everything. Toddlerhood is a very rewarding time for you as a parent, as the baby that you have nurtured from their most vulnerable days begins to turn into the most amazing person. At this stage you'll see them doing so many new things like eating with a spoon, drinking from an open cup, climbing stairs, playing make-believe and so much more. These are rewarding days, but you'll quickly forget all the little things that made you stop and think along the way. Use your blogs in ToucanLearn to record all of those moments, and you will capture your baby's childhood in a way that you can look back over it in the future.
A shattering silence reverberates around the place once the kids are asleep - hopefully that's soon after you put them down, rather than hours later! Now's a perfect time to catch up with your homework - fill in your kid's Blogs and make sure you record those thoughts of the day. It's easy to think you'll come back to do this later but by them you've forgotten all the funny incidents and dramas that took place today. Get into the habit of spending a few minutes writing your blogs regularly and in no time at all, you'll have an invaluable reference of your children's first few years! Go on, it's so easy, and you'll regret it if you don't!
As your babies grow into toddlers and then into little children, they'll do all sort of things that make you proud and make you laugh. All too quickly they start school and you quickly forget the amazing experiences that you went through in their early years. That's what ToucanLearn's private blogs are for. You can record events about your children as often as you like - record the funny things that they have said and done, record the milestones they pass, such as when their first teeth came through, when they first smiled, their first words and so on. In time you'll have an invaluable record that you can look through and remember all those great moments. Don't forget that their blog space is private - it's not shared publicly.
Children do and say the funniest things. As parents, we enjoy those special moments that our kids make us laugh or when they do things that touch us. Wouldn't it be great to be able to recall all those precious moments and events after our children have grown a bit older? That's exactly what your ToucanLearn blogs are for - if you find the time in your busy day to record those memorable instances, then you will build a treasure trove of precious memories that you will be able to look back on forever!
A picture tells a thousand words - so why not take photographs of your children doing their ToucanLearn activities and upload them to their blogs? Better still, have your kids take photos themselves!
I'm sure you've found that your toddlers love gadgets - TV remotes, phones, computers. Our houses are littered with modern devices, many of which didn't even exist when we were babies! Our kids love to play with them because they are 'grown up' things that they see us using, and they want to mimic what we do. Cameras are no different - under supervision your children will delight in being allowed to use a real camera, and take real photos. Have them photograph their own art and craftwork and store their pictures in their Blog - they will thank you for the memories as they grow older.
Hope you like the brand new look! I LOVE it! ...and I've managed to incorporate my own blog space, so ToucanLearn members aren't the only ones who can record their thoughts, I can too! Let me introduce myself. I'm Tikal the Toucan and I'll be writing regularly on topics relating to preschool children, that's babies toddler and young kids! Follow me as we go on an adventure in raising the brightest and best children...
