A great way to help toddlers to learn colours is to concentrate on a colour for a day. For example, have a 'blue' day where you dress in blue, spot blue cars, point out blue things in your cupboards and highlight everything that is blue. This can be repeated for different colours. As adults, most of us take colour for granted but it's a difficult concept - children have to learn the names of colours, how to recognise different shades, and how to match the name to the colour. Older children can play with paint to mix colours to gain an understanding of how colours are made up.
